Veterans Voices Writing Project Board of Directors

A part-time professional administrator manages the headquarters office while an all-volunteer staff produces the Veterans’ Voices magazine every Spring, Summer, and Fall. The VVWP board of directors oversees publication of Veterans’ Voices and is responsible for raising funds to finance the organization and publish the magazine.

Sheryl Liddle, President: VVWP, KC VAMC/VAVS Rep.: B.S. in Cinema/M.A. in Cinema. Professional Experience: Production Assistant; Programming Director; Photographer and Multi-Media Producer; Production Manager; Marketing Special Projects Coordinator.

Theodore Iliff, Vice-President & Prose Editor: Nearly 50 years writing, editing, producing and consulting for United Press International, CNN, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, USA Today, Voice of America, NBC International and more.

Priscilla Chansky, CAE, Secretary-Treasurer Veterans’ Voices magazine: More than 50 years’ experience in public relations, weekly newspaper ownership and association management. B.S. in Journalism University of Kansas. 17 years PR staff KU Medical Center; served as executive director of National Federation of Press Women.

Margaret Clark, Veterans’ Voices Editor-in-Chief: B.S. in Journalism University of Kansas; Editor Kansas City Kansan and Kansas City Star newspapers. Writer, editor and event planner for public libraries.

Lou Eisenbrandt*: RN deployed to 91st Evac hospital Chu Lai, South Vietnam 1968.  Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease from war exposure to Agent Orange, Lou shares Vietnam experiences with students, veterans and community groups; People with Parkinson’s Advisory Council; authored two books.

Christopher Iliff*: A lawyer who retired as senior vice president of Swiss Re.  Member of the Missouri Bar since 1979. Served in the US Navy Reserves 1971 to 1977. Currently serves on the Volunteer Attorney Project, Legal Aid Western Missouri.  

Dan Yates*: Western Illinois University B.S. Business (Finance). CPCU — 43 years insurance industry. Advisory Council — National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters. Chairman, Board of Directors BeeDeeCo Credit Union.  U.S. Army 1972-74, nuclear weapons maintenance specialist.

Martha M. Walker: Journalist; radio, tv, newspaper and United Press International wire service reporter. Speech writer/press secretary Kansas Gov. Joan Finney. 22 years corporate marketing, communications Young Presidents’ Organization.

Shon Pernice*: A Veterans’ Voices contributing author since 2018. Served in the U.S. Navy during the first Gulf War, then went into the Army as a combat Medic (68W) where he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007-2008). Shon writes about his war time experiences, good and bad, as a means to deal with PTSD and TBI.

Tony Hubbard*: Masters of Science in Management, Bachelor of Science in HR Management, Marine Corps Veteran, Bank Branch Manager with 15 years of banking and finance and 30 years of management experience.


Tina Hacker, Poetry Editor: Master’s Degree in English from the University of Illinois. A 38-year career editing and writing for Hallmark Cards.  Poetry editor of Veterans’ Voices since 1976.  Won the prestigious Matrix Honor Award, named Editor’s Choice in two literary journals and won a Clarion Award for her work on Veterans’ Voices. Authored three books of poetry: Cutting It, Listening to Night Whistles and GOLEMS.

Tracy Cheng Art Editor: B.A. Studio Art, University of Missouri Kansas City/M.A. Art Education/current M.A. to PhD Art History student, University of Kansas. Curatorial Assistant, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Granddaughter of WWII (Italy/North Africa) and Korean War (First Cavalry tank unit commander) veteran, Colonel Lester C. Bieler.
